Area - Tic & Tac (1980)

::

Tag : Area

"The first track opens up quite spacey, but ends up sounding like something off the Don Lane show, or what Paul Schaeffer and the CBS orchestra would dabble in. Their playing is absolutely precise, virtuosic and they tackle some really complex arrangements with ease, and most tracks hardly 'let up' until 'Chantee d'amour', with some of those last few tracks closer to their older style than most of the album, displaying slight avant-garde elements and dynamics. All up, a fine album, quite hard for me to describe because it's a bonanza of incredible playing and sounds, but comes off a little too 'serious'. 4 star as the musicianship is immaculate and shouldn't disappoint, especially for those into the jazzier end of prog." - Tom Ozric -ProgArchives

Area - 1978 Gli Dei Se Ne Vanno, Gli Arrabbiati Restano! (1978)

Tag : Area

"Area - "Gli Dei se ne Vanno, gli Arrabbiati Restano" is absolutely a masterpiece of all the italian and world prog-jazz fusion. This is the last record with Demetrio Stratos on vocals (one year later he will die) and the emotions that this album, the best Area album, for me, provoke in me are really a lot. The songs are all masterpieces, but the one that I love with all my prog soul is "Return From Workuta". A piece with Stratos on vocals and sinth and Tavolazzi on contrabass. Really I cry when I hear the power of Demetrio's vocals and the perfect harmony between his voice and the sound of VCS3, played by Stratos himself. Highly recommended to everyone who wants to know real progressive and experimental music. Area is the best I've found in music." - dodaro-ProgArchives

Area - Maledetti (1976)

::

Tag : Area

"Area’s fourth studio effort is yet another masterpiece in their recording catalogue, standing out as the most solid showcase for their musical ideology so far. “Maledetti” is a bit stronger than their second gem “Caution Radiation Area” and, in some ways, much bolder. The music itself is mostly driven by bass and furious drums, with loads of piano and keyboard works, spiced up with incredible Demetrio's vocals and his daring experimentations: from yodeling, squeaking, howling, growling, snoring, sometimes all of that in the same time.." - Cesar Inca-ProgArchives

Area - Are(A)zione (1975)

Tag : Area

"The Italian founding band Area in 1975 produced Are(A)zione, one of the more important live albums from Italy. That this band is a Communist band is clear. But if you don't have problems with the political influence and inclinations in musical field Area is a fundamental band. So this live is a great document. The music is a collection of great songs.." - Ely78-ProgArchives

Area - Arbeit Macht Frei (1973)

::

Tag : Area

"In 1973, Johnny Lambizzi left the band and was replaced by Paolo Tofani (guitar and synth). In that year, they recorded their first studio album Arbeit Macht Frei ("Work Brings Freedom"), taken from the ins.cription that was found on the gate at the entrance to Auschwitz Nazi concentration camp, was released by Cramps Records and the band performed in many musical and cultural events. Area went on tour in Chile and, representing Italy, they took part in the eighth Biennale de Paris. At that time, Area's sound was an odd mish-mash that drew from rock, jazz, Eastern, and Arabic music, and it was the blending of all sorts of music that made the band stand out.." - Wikipedia

Area - Caution Radiation Area (1974)

Tag : Area

"The 2nd album from the band that I consider to be possibly the finest ITALIAN PROGRESSIVE ROCK band of the 1970's, & certainly a band in the top tier of all early 1970's progressive bands worldwide! Area combined jazz/rock/stolen ethnic music (mostly from Eastern Europe and the Middle East)/the avant garde and more. Superb playing from all (vocals/organ, guitar, electric piano/synths, bass & drums). This includes a thick booklet with rare photos, notes, etc. While everyone shines, the vocalist, the late Demetrio Stratos is rightly one of the legends of 1970's music. On this one, bassist Ares Tavolazzi joins, making this their first album with the classic quintet lineup."
