Camel - Moonmadness (1976)

::

Tag : Camel

"Moonmadness is an album released in March 1976 by Camel. It is the final album that featured the classic line-up (Latimer, Bardens, Ferguson, Ward) from the band. After the release of The Snow Goose in 1975, the band decided to move back into a more accessible direction by adding vocals to their music again. The album still has an overall theme, just as their previous one did, but doesn't follow a storyline since it's mostly based on the band members themselves.
As written in the CD Booklet: Overall, the tracks comprising the album were conceived as a loose concept based on the individual personalities that made up Camel; "Air Born" about Andrew Latimer, "Lunar Sea" about Andy Ward, "Chord Change" about Peter Bardens and "Another Night" about Doug Ferguson." - Wikipedia

Camel - The Snow Goose (1975)

"The Snow Goose is the third album released by the band Camel in 1975. The success of the White Rider suite (Which was based on J. R. R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings) that appeared on their previous album, Mirage, inspired the group to write more novel-inspired conceptual suites. The band gathered and all members proposed several novels on which their next album would be based on. Keyboardist Peter Bardens suggested Siddhartha, by Hermann Hesse, and some songs were written before the idea was trashed. Another book by the same writer (Steppenwolf) was also suggested, but this concept proved unworkable for the band. Finally, bassist Doug Ferguson recommended the group to have the next album based on Paul Gallico's novel The Snow Goose. The album reached silver status in 1981." - Wikipedia

"Mirage is an album released in 1974 by Camel. It was the second album they released. Their self-titled album Camel came before this one in 1973, and The Snow Goose came after it in 1975.
Mirage is the group's most remembered album. It features their most well known song, Lady Fantasy. The album is also a showplace for Andrew Latimer's flute, notably on "Supertwister".
There are only 5 tracks on the album, two over 9 minutes. Those two are multi-part epics, Lady Fantasy and Nimrodel/The Procession/The White Rider, the latter being about The Lord of the Rings. It was released on Deram Records." - Wikipedia

Camel - Camel (1973)

"In the early 70's Pete Bardens and Andy Latimer forged a music style that would break ground and influence generations until this very day. Supported by a strong keyboard foundation, the guitar has a prominent whole in the music. The drumming style of Andy Ward gives the final signature to their music, not to mention the beautiful voice of Latimer, and his sweet flute as well. Influences from Jazz to Pop/Rock are found on this massive melodical and symphonic universe that is CAMEL's music. Their style changed over the years, with the arrival of Richard Sinclair on bass and vocals, and just after, the departure of Pete Bardens. The band became more commercial since the 80's but the incomparable quality is always there.." - ProgArchives
